The prophet who got
results
Historical
background and purpose of the book
The
prophet Haggai delivered his messages in 520BC. He is recorded in a very brief
time frame – less than 4 months. It is a short book when it comes to pages
also. He was as the same time as Zechariah. He encouraged Zerubbabel and the
high priest Jeshua to make the people finish the rebuilding of the temple and
Jerusalem Ezr.6.14. He provoked them to get God’s priorities again in a time
where they focused on their own houses and lives 1.9
Theme
tracing:
What does the book show
about the character and nature of God?
I
am with you 2.4
I
will fill the temple with my glory 2.9
I
will give peace 2.9
He
speaks 2.9
Encourages
His people: Be strong x3 2.4
He
have chosen His people 2.23
What does this book show
about God´s redemptive plan for mankind?
I
think the verses in 2.9 “The future glory of this Temple will be greater than
its past glory, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. And in this place I will
bring peace. I, the Lord of heaven’s Armies, have spoken.” May be foreshadowing
the Prince of Peace – Jesus
Our
teacher this week noted that verse 2.7 could be talking about the destruction
of 2. Temple in 70AD
Zerubbabel
is foreshadowing Jesus in being one of his ancestors (thru Joseph) Matt.13, –
in Haggai 2.23
