Book of Nahum

God’s righteous judgment triumph over evil!
The historical background and purpose of the prophet Nahum
In the introduction to the book in SVB it says that Nahum is the author, written about 100 years after (app 663-654) Nineveh’s repentance after Jonah’s prophecy. Assyria was now at its cruel full strength. Nahum proclaims the downfall of Nineveh. – His prophecy was fulfilled in painful detail.
Nahum was a prophet to the Southern Kingdom. The name Nahum means “comforter” – and it was probably a great relief for the Judah people that Nineveh would fall.
