The Bible is a
collection of 66 books, 40 authors, 3 different languages, on 3 different
continents, over approximately 1600 years. The Bible claims to be inspired
from God. The Bible contains many different styles of writing such as poetry,
narration, fiction, history, law, and prophecy.
In the Bible we read about God’s love story with the world, and the people
He created. In the first part
of the book we see how He created the first people, and they are called Adam
and Eve. All God wanted for them were to
live in the Garden of Eden – in perfect relationship with Him. But the
people took their own, and wrong choice, and wandered away from fellowship with
God. But God started at once trying to restore the
relationship.
Trough a man
named Abraham and his descendants, He called a special people to Himself,
the Israelites. God demonstrated His love and care for all people. He gave them
a promise of blessing, salvation and restoration by believing in Him as the one
and only God. Through thousands of years His people were coming close and then drifting
apart again in (idolatry and disloyalty= sin) sin. When Moses led them towards
their promised land Israel, they were given new promise and commands. God intended for His people to live according to these,
and by so showing the truth of God to the entire world.
Still they were not able to stay close because
of sin. They were given judges and Kings as leaders. The most know kings are
David and his son Salomon. All the way there were some godly people and
Prophets (like Elijah, Samuel,
Jonah, Isaiah and many others) pointing
to God and the coming salvation.
The Second part of
the Bible, the New Testament tells of Jesus' birth, life, ministry, death and
resurrection, the growth of the early Christian Church, and predictions of the
second coming of Jesus. Jesus traveled from town to town, healing the sick and
preaching about the coming kingdom of God.
With Jesus, God
came with His final and perfect solution: By sending His son Jesus to the world
as a sinless man He became the sacrifies for all mankind’s sin - and God was able to restore the fellowship
with us all. The great Love climaxed in
Jesus’ offering of His life. In this we are given love, grace, freedom, forgiveness
of sin, eternal life and fellowship with our creator again. All we need is to
believe in this and give our lives back to God. God also gave His followers the
Power of the Holy Spirit with that, all we need deposited in this. Christianity was born, and Jesus' former disciples
became its leaders.
Throughout the New
Testament, Jesus is portrayed as the Son of God, the fulfillment of the Old
Testament prophecies of the Messiah, and as our personal salvation from the
power of sin and death. Jesus taught
that love of God, and love of other people, are the two "Greatest
Commandments" that should totally guide our lives. The last part of the Bible shows us how to be
able to do this.
